“The war on drugs is over.”
Welcome to another episode of your favorite marijuana / cannabis talk show, the Hot Box. Mat Lee here with some show notes for episode 133. We recorded on Saturday so we could interview another member of LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) on the show. Let’s welcome Diane Goldstein to the Hot Box. Join us as we discuss changing drug policy, Obama VS Biden, some international drug policy, states rights, and the newly passed marijuana laws in Washington and Colorado. This is a great conversation so keep reading for links to more information on Diane Goldstein, LEAP, and the articles we discussed. Thanks for listening, and help spread the word by clicking the share buttons. Interact with us throughout the week on the big three. Find the Hot Box on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
Let’s welcome Retired Lieutenant Commander Diane Goldstein from LEAP to the Hot Box. You can follow her on Twitter, and check out her page on the LEAP site.
Obama said he won’t go after marijuana use in Colorado and Washington. We’ll see what really happens. Which leads into our next topic.
We love getting emails from our listeners, so keep them coming. Email info@hotboxpodcast.com or use the contact form at the bottom of the About Us page. You can also leave us a message at 406.204.4687. Ryan from Vermont writes in to let us know about VP Joe Biden and his stance on legalization. You can find an article on Joe Biden’s stance on the war on drugs here on the Huffington Post.
We need to make sure the people we elect KNOW what our stance is on this failed war on drugs. This will no longer be acceptable to support. If you support the war on drugs, we will not allow you to keep your job. In the same vein, we the people need to be much more politically aware. This is a great point Diane brings up. Not only at the state level, but at the federal level as well.
Law enforcement Lobbying is also a huge problem. We should not have our police out there lobbying for laws. It is not their job, and it causes huge problems.
This drug war is such a failure, the Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain, Nick Clegg, even says it’s time to tell the truth. He says, “We are losing the war on drugs on an industrial scale.” Check out the article here on The Telegraph.
The war on drugs is not over until all the money that’s wasted each year is redirected to better uses. Like the helping communities and education.
Let’s talk about I-502 in Washington. Diane gives her thoughts about the whole impairment issue. This is more of a complex issue than most would think.
Why are you conducting raids on medical marijuana dispensaries when you have a massive meth / pill epidemic? It’s the low hanging fruit. It’s an easier raid to conduct.
Again, thank you to Diane Goldstein and LEAP for another great interview. We look forward to the day drug prohibition ends and we can focus on more prominent problems. Again, follow Diane on Twitter and check out her page on LEAP to see more of her talks.
