“Statistically speaking, one out of five dudes is just going to be a raging d bag.”

Hello, welcome, and happy 420 to all our cannabis loving friends. This is episode 138 of the Hot Box, our more or less monthly marijuana talk show. This is a very exciting time as far as drug policy reform goes, and we are glad to be here sifting through all the bullshit so we can discuss the truly important ideas. Some of these stories aren’t so happy, but that’s how it goes when marijuana is in the news and people have not so hidden agendas. Join us as we analyze cannabis news and tell you what you need to know.

Happy 420 to everyone. Let’s start the show off with some sad news about a shooting at a Denver marijuana rally. Three people were shot according to this article on the Huffington Post. Usa Today and the Denver Post also had articles about the shooting.

Friend of the Show Keith sent in this interesting patent application. He says the publish date was January 2013 so its brand new. Look on the right side at the claims, everyone of them says “cannabis extract”. Interesting hmmmmm? No medical value my fat cock. It won’t have value until they can milk it dry for profit and then we can have it. I have to agree with you Keith, thanks for sending this in. It’s quite a long read, but very interesting if you’re into that sort of thing. Basically this contradicts the federal government’s stance that marijuana has no medical value, thus keeping it a schedule one substance.

The Weed Blog has an interesting article about how the federal government once again ignores one of it’s own agency’s findings regarding the true medical benefits of cannabis. The National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health, which is an agency of the federal government, states that cannabis is “a medicine that inhibited the survival of both estrogen receptor-positive and estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer cell lines, and may provide risk reduction and treatment of colorectal cancer.” Let’s even take this one step further. The report also states that, “Cannabis does not cause lung cancer, and might have a protective effect against its formation.” Sounds like medical benefit to me.

Before we continue, enjoy this weed flavored track by our friend Greydon Square. You can check out more of Greydon Square’s hip hop on his Soundcloud page. Flower Girl is from the album Type II: The Mandelbrot Set. Check it out here on his Bandcamp page.

The Huffington Post has a good run down of the year in pot. These are the legislative victories so far this year.

State law versus Federal law. What is the fucking point if you don’t let the states govern themselves? Why even bother?

Marijuana prohibition costs an estimated $20 BILLION A YEAR. I don’t know about you, but I can think of at least one billion other things that would cause positive societal change way more than marijuana prohibition. Plus I’d have some money left over. Can you even picture $20 Billion? I can’t. How many pennies is that?

Vermont recently passed a hemp bill that will become law now that Governor James Douglas said he won’t veto the measure. That’s a small step in the right direction. Nice work Vermont.

Time for one more chronic tokin hip hop break. This track is called Smokin Weed, and it’s by me, Mat Lee! It’s off the Escape Goats album, which you can find here on the Jamhole Music page, or on Google Play.

The drug czar once again comes out and tells the people that states can’t legalize marijuana. That’s where you’re wrong sir. Because you see, places like Washington and Colorado already have. I wonder how much of that $20 Billion he gets for a salary. Whatever the cut, I’m sure it’s way too much.

Here’s an interesting article about the five most dangerous places to celebrate 420. Talk about a list of places I have absolutely zero desire to visit. Not just because of their ridiculous drug laws, but because of their dark age mentality, and crazy religious nut bags.

Have you been watching Vice? It’s on HBO, and probably your friendy neighborhood torrent site. It’s crazy, you should definitely check it out.

Kelsie brings up a cool article about how the police in Washington need to retrain their drug sniffing dogs. Kelsie has an interesting insight to this, because she’s the best dog trainer in the world. Check out her Facebook page here. It’s a Dog’s Life.

If you like hip hop, check out Escape Goats and The Blame EP. You can get them free here on my music page, or on my SoundCloud. But if you want to actually pay for the music, you can donate some cash or check them out on Google Play.
