“When you’re that sick you have to, it’s either that or die.”

Hello and welcome to episode 127 of our weekly marijuana podcast, the Hot Box. Mat Lee here, so fresh and so clean back from my trip to Mexico. In this episode I brought a couple friends who followed me deep down the rabbit hole, chasing one of the most intense detoxifying and healing hallucinogenic trips we’ve ever taken in our lives. This is the wrap up to our discussion about drug addiction and the Ibogaine treatment from episode 126 of the Hot Box and episodes 24 and 25 of the Buffer Overflow Show. Sit back and listen, you might learn something. Especially if you or someone you know is struggling with a dark sadistic masochistic addiction to opiates. Keep reading past the break for links to the Ibogaine Clinic and a full trip report written up by AJ.

You may feel like there is no way out, at least not one that is easy and painless enough for you to deal with. Let me be the first to say, if you can come up with the money, the Ibogaine Clinic in Cancun is your way out. They will take amazing care of you, and after your trip, you’ll feel good as new. I’m not one to believe in or endorse miracles, but after going through what I went through, I’d say this is as close to miraculous as it gets in this reality. I hope you can all appreciate the gravity of our situation, and take away something positive from our experience.

The only links for this episode is to the Ibogaine Clinic in Cancun Mexico, and some Wikipedia links on Ibogaine for further reading. Check it out if you or someone you know needs help freeing themselves from addiction.

Here is the wiki entry for Ibogaine, and here is a quick run down of Noribogaine.

I also would like to post AJ’s trip report here so everyone can find it easily. We talk about it a bit here and there on BOS and the Hot Box, but if you want to absorb the whole thing, it’s definitely worth the read.

Yep, the Noribogaine that is metabolized by your liver stays in your fatty tissues and your brain for up to three months, and that’s what causes the “cloud nine” feeling. That is why most reputable Ibogaine clinics will describe it as an “addiction interrupter”, and not an “addiction cure”. Anyways, I’m planning on attending some counseling and perhaps some meetings. To be honest, I don’t know what to expect once the Noribogaine wears off, so I may attempt to procure some boosters.

As for the experience itself, it was the most intense, yet at the same time, relaxing and serene trip I’ve ever had. The first 30 minutes to an hour, you get crazy open eye visuals. The ceiling of the darkened room I was in started looking like the surface of the moon, all cratered and shit. After about an hour, the actual trip takes place.

The first thing I remember is being teleported into my blood stream, and seeing the Iboga spirit (this transparent purple amorphous blob with a solid black geometric thing in the middle of it) coursing through my body in slow motion. It’s hard to describe, but I was somewhat anxious and scared of the Ibogaine before taking it, but once I saw the “spirit” I felt a wave of calm wash over me.

I got the feeling that the Ibogaine was showing me only what I needed to see, and nothing more. The next thing I remember is being teleported to a bright white room. Then I hear a voice coming from the left side of where I was, and I distinctly recall it being my subconscious or super ego. It was telling me things, and the Ibogaine was throwing down visions of all my problems and subsequent solutions in hyper speed like a pack of playing cards. This is unfortunately most of what I remember of the trip.

I only had one “freakout”, and I don’t even remember it. It was retold to me the day after the trip. I apparently had to use the bathroom, and while waiting for the nurse to come help me to the bathroom (because the Ataxia it gives you means you can’t move straight for SHIT), I teleported back to Iboga world and thought the nurse was a demon or monster or something, because I started to bust some crazy kung fu moves on her, and it took the nurse and a doctor to hold me down and calm me down (I’m chinese, maybe it unlocked some crazy past life of mine).

After this, I experienced a vision that I thought I went crazy during the ibogaine treatment, turned into some sort of crazy half man half hedgehog creature, escaped the treatment center, and murdered a bunch of people in Cancun (visions of violence are supposedly pretty common). After this, after I came back to “reality” I was still tripping pretty hard, and thought I was in a completely different room in a hotel in Mexico City or something. However, I was able to ground myself back pretty easily when the nurse came back to tuck me back into the bed I felt this rush of motherly love.

After the trip, after leaving the treatment room, I literally felt reborn. Colors were brighter, everything looked new, and the first cigarette after was one of the best cigarettes I’ve ever had. During the treatment, I felt like the Ibogaine was literally pushing out the heroin with every breath I was taking. Afterwards, the only uncomfortable effects are slight shivers, and insomnia, but nothing anywhere CLOSE to dope sickness at all. I noticed cigarettes taste different now, and I don’t seem to have a physical dependence to them anymore, just the habit of smoking. Tastes are also more intense. I’ve noticed sweets make my salivary glands work super overtime.

It may seem strange, but after the Ibogaine I got comments that I looked 100% healthier than when I first arrived at the center. My face was no longer emaciated and pale, but full of color and life. I also noticed that I have a “sparkle” in my eyes again, which I haven’t noticed in quite a while. The insomnia I have now is kind of annoying, but I still get at least three to four hours of sleep a night and wake up feeling pretty rested.

This is just the beginning of the journey though, I’ve got a ways to go on the road…

Thanks for that awesome trip report AJ. Before I wrap this up, I want to again give a huge thanks to all of the doctors and nurses at the Ibogaine Clinic who put up with all of us tripping hallucinating junkies. They really believe in what they are doing, and it shows in how you are treated there. I felt like a human being, not some second class citizen drug addict.

They are all amazing people who do amazing work, and I swear I’m not getting paid to say that. I just know how dealing with a decade long drug addiction can be, and it really gets to the point where it seems like there is no way out. I’m here to tell you there is. The Ibogaine Clinic in Cancun Mexico will save your life and get you back on track. After that, the rest is up to you.
